The state government in recent years has forced local government to provide more services far and beyond those traditionally associated with local government.
The cost to the ratepayer by councils has increased to levels which are now becoming unsustainable, both to ratepayers and councils themselves. Councils have increased staff levels to accommodate and provide these services.
